(Re)Align Yourself with God

6 Rules for (Re)Alignment

Recently I had twisted my back a bit causing some unwelcome discomfort. Looking into a chiropractic recommendation I began finding some really good information on back health. Did you know that “90% of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by the movement of the spine,” says Dr. Roger Sperry, Nobel Prize recipient for brain research? As a result, alignment problems affect what would normally be thought of as unrelated problems. But there is so much more to the story. Dr. Sperry demonstrated that 90 percent of the energy output of the brain is used in relating the physical body to gravity. Only 10% has to do with thinking, metabolism, and healing, so when you have forward head posture, your brain will rob energy from your thinking, metabolism, and immune function to deal with abnormal gravity/posture relationships and processing.

As I read this I thought to myself that there is a spiritual application here. What happens when our spiritual spine is misaligned? It’s obvious that something is going to be getting robbed the energy and nutrients that it needs. Also, we might find certain unpleasant circumstances going on in our lives that we think are unrelated, but in actuality they are. So, here is your spiritual adjustment to help you get the spiritual energy and nutrients that you need. It’s not exhaustive, but it is a good start.

#1 Never neglect daily prayer

While you pray, remember that God is present and that He hears your prayers (Hebrews 11:6).

#2 Never neglect daily private Bible reading

When you read, remember that God is speaking to you, and that you are to believe and act upon what He says. All backsliding begins with the neglect of these two rules (John 5:39).

#3 Never let a day pass without trying to do something for Jesus (others)

Every night reflect on what Jesus has done for you and then ask yourself, "What am I doing for Him?" – “What am I doing for others that pleases Him?” (Matthew 5:12-16; 25:31-46).

#4 If in doubt as to a thing being right or wrong, wait and think

Don't just do it without being confident it is right. Go to God and see if you can find anything in His Word that relates to it (chances are you will–call someone if you need to) (Romans 14:21-23). Then kneel down and ask God’s blessings upon it (Colossians 3:17).  If you feel uncomfortable doing this, that is a good sign it is wrong. Let God’s Word direct and train your conscience.

#5 Never take your Christianity from other Christians

Don't argue that "such and such" people do "so and so," therefore you may (II Corinthians 10:12).  Ask yourself: "How would Christ act in my place?"

#6 Never believe what you feel if it contradicts God’s word

Ask yourself, "Can what I feel be true if God’s word is true and they disagree?"  If both cannot be true, believe God and change your feelings (Romans 3:4; I John 5:10-11). Spiritually speaking, the way we feel should never direct our faith; our faith should always direct our feelings.

With brotherly affection,

Andy
